The Read Across America event celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss at Ramona Library March 4 was “a big success,” reported Stephanie Hurst, president of the Iota Rho chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers society, which hosted the party.

Held annually, this year’s Read Across America event drew approximately 250 people, said one volunteer.

Hurst gave credit to the Read Across America committee of Donna Braye-Romero, Laura Rosenbusch, Susan Beffa and Karen Johnson. She also thanked the volunteers, including Janet Crossett, Liz McLaughlin, Bo Varnado, and Sherry Torpin, along with Judy Gunnett and Lori Tipane for bringing in boxes of donated books to give to children.

Also receiving recognition were members from four local Girl Scout troops who volunteered to work with children at the craft tables, and Kathleen Sullivan of Ramona Library for providing the Dr. Seuss birthday cake that was served to all who attended.
