Ramona Pony Baseball League will be ushering in a new season with its 45th opening ceremony on Saturday, March 2, organizers said.

Opening day will take place at Wellfield Park from 9 to 10 a.m., beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and introduction of the 36 teams made up of over 400 players, said Ramona Pony public relations manager Dinah Kilcoyne. .

“Everyone congregates and gets excited for the season to come,” Kilcoyne said.

This year there are seven teams in the Shetland category under 5 years old, Kilcoyne said, along with seven teams of 5- to 8-year-old players in the Pinto category, 10 teams of 7- to 10-year-olds in the Mustang category, seven Bronco teams in the 10- to 12-year-old category and five teams in the Pony category of 12- to 14-year-old players.

Kilcoyne said she’s excited to bring back events from last season along with new ones for the 2024 season.

“We did something new (last season) where we had playoffs at the end and it was a great success,” she said. “We’re looking forward to doing that again.”

The Ramona Pony League will also host a Padres night, Kilcoyne said, where families can buy tickets for a Padres baseball game that everyone will attend together.

“We are looking forward to another fun season, of competition, baseball development, family and friend gatherings, and creating memorable moments in our local community,” she said. “A lot of good and fun family time.”

Ramona Community Singers celebrate 10 years with spring concert

The Ramona Community Singers will host its 10th anniversary celebration with a free concert on Sunday, March 10, at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church.

Gina Seashore said she started the group in February 2014 with hopes of creating a space where people in Ramona could come sing. The goal is to enrich the community and bring some light through music, she said.

The Community Singers work with a “pretty eclectic repertoire,” Seashore said, ranging from pop, to Broadway, to folk. She typically looks for songs that fit the group best based on the participants and what performances they’re preparing for.

Seashore invited audience members to clap, tap, and hum along as they celebrate the group’s milestone anniversary.

“Celebrating 10 years of singing together is a significant achievement for our choir,” Seashore said. “We are delighted to share this special occasion with the community through a concert that showcases some of our most loved songs — and the stories that go along with them.”

Always Sunny Ramona Senior Day Care has ribbon cutting

The Ramona Chamber of Commerce hosted its first mixer of the year on Feb. 15 at the recently opened Always Sunny Ramona Senior Day Care. About 60 people turned up for the event, which had a Mardi Gras theme, said Always Sunny manager Deanna McMahon.

“Purple, gold and green decor made this a memorable night with a photo booth, New Orleans-inspired food, and even a zydeco bounce line dance,” McMahon said.

Gift baskets were raffled for chamber members, McMahon said, and chamber president Bob Krysak won the $1,000 roll-over jackpot, to be donated to the Ramona Artist Open Studios Tour.

The evening concluded with a ribbon-cutting, for the business that opened in November.

The adult day care center offers a fully scheduled day, Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with supervised physical and mentally engaging activities for participants along with the chance to socialize with their peers, McMahon said.
