The community had the opportunity to visit with 2Create Gallery owners Dave and Molly Begent and artist Helen Wilson at the dedication of Wilson’s mural, “The Golden Rectangle,” last Friday morning.

The mural, standing about 16 feet by 8 feet, sits on the Main Street side of 2Create Gallery at 428 Main St. The Begents donated it to the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project.

Elaine Lyttleton, mural project chair, thanked the Begents for the donation as she welcomed guests to the dedication.

“As with all the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project works, at least one heart icon is hidden in the rendering for pedestrians to find while they view the mural,” said Lyttleton.

Wilson, a lifelong Ramona resident, is director of The Art Center of Ramona housed in 2Create Gallery.

“Since this mural was going on a gallery/art center, I worked with the history of the Ramona backcountry as a premier California plein air painting site,” said Wilson. “I was interested in the artist’s perspective of the moment before a painting has begun and is still forming in the mind. Envisioned is the moment when an artist stands in nature, looks with an artist’s eye, and nature looks back.”

The Golden Rectangle has a long history with the arts as a way of organizing compositions, noted Wilson.

“As a mathematical formula, it is also related to how plants grown and nature organizes,” she added. “The crows are amused at the whole idea.”

Wilson thanked her art students from Palomar College and the Tuesday Nights Artists’ Group, The Art Center of Ramona and 2Create Gallery for assisting her with the mural.

Brad Begent, son of Molly and Dave Begent, designed and made the metal sculpture of the crow that overlooks the mural.

Area artists offer classes at 2Create Gallery. Information about classes may be found online at www.2creategallery.com.
