Share

Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3783 will spearhead three Memorial Day services on Monday.

The first will be at 10 a.m. at Nuevo Memory Gardens, 532 Ash St. In preparation for the annual service, VFW members assisted by Boy Scout Troop 768 on Friday will place U.S. flags at the graves of all veterans buried at the cemetery.

Following Post 3783‘s tradition, each veteran at the service will be asked to stand to be honored, and Gold Star mothers or grandmothers will receive a bouquet of flowers. Gold Star parents and grandparents have lost a son, daughter or grandchild in combat.

Following the service at the cemetery, Post 3783 will conduct a short ceremony at the World War II memorial on Ninth Street near the ball field across from the Ramona Unified School District offices. From there, a service will be held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in front of Schwaesdall Winery on state Route 67.

At 1 p.m., Post 3783 will host a community barbecue picnic in its Bobby Watt Memorial Park at 2247 Kelly Ave. The public is welcome. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish to share.

Also as part of Memorial Day Weekend, Post 3783 will hold Buddy Poppy Days Friday through Sunday in front of Albertsons, Stater Bros., Kmart and the Country Wine & Spirits store at 23658 San Vicente Road in San Diego Country Estates. Proceeds from Buddy Poppy donations will assist disabled and needy veterans, state and national veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs, and the VFW National Home for Children.
