Help Rotary fill students’ backpacks

For its first community service project of the 2016-17 year, Ramona Rotary Club is conducting a Rotary Backpack Giveaway for Ramona schoolchildren and welcomes donations from the community.

“Help Rotary fill Ramona students’ backpacks with school supplies, and help give students the supplies they need to get started this school year,” the service club’s announcement reads.

A list of suggested supplies to donate includes: backpacks, pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, lined paper, glue sticks, rulers, crayons, colored markers, highlighters, erasers, pencil sharpeners, children’s scissors, pencil boxes and folders.

These and other school supply donations may be brought to the Ramona Sentinel at 850 Main St., Suite 106; Ramona Home Journal at 726 D St.; Ramona Senior Center in Ramona Community Center at 434 Aqua Lane; and Ramona Valley Presbyterian Church office at 1039 D St., Suite 4.

Persons unable to deliver their donations may call Maureen Robertson, Ramona Rotary Community Service chair, at 760-803-9706 or 760-789-1350, extension 4570, for pickup.

The deadline for donations is Aug. 19. The 2016-17 school year for Ramona Unified students will start on Monday, Aug. 22.

Checks written to Ramona Rotary Club with Student Backpacks in the memo portion of the check may be sent to Ramona Rotary Club, P.O. Box 276, Ramona, CA 92065.
