Soccer league aids grieving family with fundraiser

Share

To aid a Ramona Soccer League (RSL) family dealing with an unexpected death, the league organized a fundraiser that netted $2,560 for the Brambila family.

Christina Romo Brambila, wife of soccer league coach Francisco “Chico” Brambila and mother of three young girls, died Sept. 19 after complaining she wasn’t feeling well, said Jorge Michel, a director of the soccer league board. Michel serves as assistant coach for the Pink Bullets, the team coached by Chico Brambila.

Two of Brambila’s daughters, Isabella, 7, and Samantha, 9, play on the Pink Bullets. Daughter Sophia is 18 months old.

The 40-year-old Christina Brambila, originally from Chula Vista, moved to Ramona in the early 2000s.

“Her kind heart and generosity will truly be missed by all she touched,” Michel said on behalf of RSL.

A snow cone fundraiser held during Saturday’s soccer league games in Ramona Community Park and during adult soccer games on Sunday night produced $2,260 in donations. In addition, Donald and Karen Cohn of Ballena Vista Farm donated $300.

Also contributing to the fundraiser were: Ramona Pony Baseball, loaning its snow cone machine; Ramona Helitack, ice; Stater Bros., balloons; and RSL, all other items for snow cones.

“We are so grateful that our soccer community came out to support this family,” said Alisa Padilla., a member of the soccer board. “Coach Brambila’s team, the Pink Bullets and their families were there all day making snow cones.”

A memorial fund has been created to assist the family at www.gofundme.com/4s4bs934.
