Assemblyman Brian Jones to host Second Amendment event

Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-Santee) will host the 5th Annual Second Amendment Awareness event in conjunction with Constitution Week at the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club in Alpine on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The event is open to the public and can accommodate first-time shooters or experienced marksmen.

“Every year, this event grows more and more successful,” said Jones. “I am always pleased to meet several individuals who use this event to learn how to shoot a firearm for the first time. In addition, this event educates participants about legislation related to Second Amendment issues and creates a greater appreciation for this constitutional right.

“There is not a country in the world — other than this great nation of ours — where a group of like-minded citizens can be found taking an afternoon to exercise their guaranteed Second Amendment rights. I hope you will join me for this wonderful afternoon.”

Michael A. Schwartz, volunteer regional coordinator for the Gun Owners of California said he has watched the event grow every year.

“The people who attend are your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends, and your family,” said Schwartz. “It really is a great way to celebrate a freedom we all cherish so much.”

Experienced instructors will help individuals learn how to safely handle and shoot various kinds of firearms. Participants will have the opportunity to shoot handguns, rifles and shotguns provided by the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club.

All firearms brought to the range by their registered owner must be unloaded and stored until inspected by a Firearms Safety Officer onsite.

Ammunition has been donated by local Second Amendment supporters and dealers for use with the firearms provided by the club.

Jones and Schwartz will provide a legislative update on Second Amendment legislation moving through the Legislature and answer questions.

Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club is at 16232 Sequan Truck Trail in Alpine. The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m.

Jones represents the 71st Assembly District, which includes Ramona and communities of eastern San Diego County and southern Riverside County.
