Write Out Loud to bring A Literary Event to town

Share

“A Literary Tasting,” a unique performance of short stories with live music, will be presented free of charge at Salerno Winery on Friday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The presentation comes from Write Out Loud with funding from the Ramona Community Foundation.

Stories by Mark Twain, Roald Dahl, Kurt Vonnegut and others will be read aloud by professional actors, accompanied by Jacquelyne Silver on the winery’s grand piano.

Wine and food will be available at menu prices. The audience is welcome to sip and nibble at their tables as the actors breathe life into their stories.

“We want the audience at Salerno Winery to have a relaxing, convivial time,” said Walter Ritter, the company’s executive director. “So we will read a story or two and take a short break so everybody can get a glass of wine or a bite of pizza and chat with friends. Then we’ll do another story, and so on. All the time, of course, the music will continue. Our pianist, Jacqui Silver, is a marvel.”

Veronica Murphy, artistic director of Write Out Loud, said the company has been active in Ramona since last January, “bringing ‘literature aloud’ programs to elementary schools, preschools, the senior center and the library. Now, as we complete our activities in Ramona, we hope adults from throughout the community will come to A Literary Tasting and enjoy a delightful and unique event.”

Write Out Loud is a theater company that does not produce plays or musicals. They read literature aloud for audiences all over San Diego County.

“We’ve enjoyed getting to know Ramona over the past year,” said Ritter. “Our audiences here ranged from 3-year-olds in preschool to octogenarians at the senior center. We are very grateful to the Ramona Community Foundation for making our programs possible here.”

Reservations are not necessary for the Salerno Winery event, but those who would like to reserve seats at a table nearest the actors may do so by calling Write Out Loud at 619-297-8953 or emailing at writeoutloudsd@gmail.com.
