Library treats volunteers to thank-you luncheon

Ramona Library honored its approximately 75 volunteers with a recognition luncheon on Friday.

About 40 attended, including three dogs in the “Paws to Read” program and members of Friends of the Ramona Library.

“We have a lot of volunteer-led programs,” said Children’s Librarian Pamela Espinosa de los Monteros, adding that many have volunteered for years.

Among the volunteers were literacy teachers and teachers of dance, Zumba and tai chi.

“If it’s going on, it’s going on at Ramona Library,” said Head Librarian Ellie Slade.

A country line dancing class will start on June 23, she said.

San Diego County Library awarded Verna Silvia of Ramona with a 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award. A retired teacher, she volunteers coordinates the Homework Help program for students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade in the Ramona Library. During the summer she coordinates the “All Stars” program, designed to help kids maintain learning during the summer.
