‘Catch the beat’ at Ramona Music Fest

Share

Organizers of Ramona’s seventh Music Fest invite residents and visitors to “catch the beat” and enjoy four hours of live music, dancing, food and family fun at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center on Saturday.

Presented by the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs of Ramona, entertainment will range from Americana and rock to reggae and country and will feature solo artists and established groups.

Event headliner Back to the Garden, formerly Cactus Twang and Whyte, will showcase the music of Eric Clapton, and guitarist Billy Thompson will be the band’s special guest.

Other musicians taking the stage will be The Shirthouse Band and Jason Winters.

“It’s prob-

ably the best entertainment value for the weekend,” said Craig Jung, event chair and Rotary president.

A Kids Zone staffed by Ramona Boys and Girls Club and its junior leaders will feature face painting, relay and toss games, and a crafts station.

Also featured will be Ramona wines, beer, silent auctions, a variety of food, opportunity drawings and a drawing for a four-pack of Park Hopper passes to Disneyland.

The Park Hopper passes are a $600 value. Tickets for the Park Hopper drawing are $10 each and are available from Ramona Rotary and Kiwanis members.

Music Fest admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 12 to 17, and free for children ages 11 and younger and for active-duty military with ID and their families.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Kiwanis and Rotary projects and scholarships.

“It’s a win-win situation,” said Jung. “Have fun and help toward Rotary and Kiwanis projects and scholarships.”

The two service organizations lowered ticket prices this year to make it easier for more people to attend and to encourage more families to enjoy the day, said Jung.

Wines from four Ramona wineries — Woof’n Rose, Ramona Ranch, Turtle Rock Ridge and Grant James — will be available, and the beer garden will feature Stone Brewery. For beer drinkers who enjoy a more mild ale, Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars Men’s Auxiliary has donated a keg of Coors Light.

The Music Fest Food Menu includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, tri-tip sandwiches, Polish dogs, regular hot dogs, nacho chips, kettle corn, and chips and chili. Sodas and bottled water also will be sold.

Among silent auction items are canvas and framed art, four single-day passes to Sea World San Diego, Ramona Martial Arts gift certificates, Kritter Kamp gift baskets and boarding gift certificates, an iPod speaker system, 30-day full Riviera Oaks Racquet Club memberships, dinner certificates and gift baskets.

Music Fest Platinum sponsors are Jane Tanaka, MD, Ramona Disposal, Law Offices of Krysak & Associates-Robert Krysak and Stone Brewing Co.

Gold sponsors include Ramona Real Estate Brokerage-Paul Tarr, San Vicente Mortgage-Christie Carlson and European/Sludgebusters Inc.

Advance tickets are available at Java Hut, Ramona Sentinel, Ramona Home Journal and Ramona Music Center. Tickets also will be available at the event.
