Ramona High School’s girls lacrosse Valley League opener will be a home game Friday against Fallbrook High School.

“After a close game against RB, I think our girls are pretty pumped and excited for league,” said assistant coach Al Cavell.

The 14-13 loss at Rancho Bernardo gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 season record following that March 20 game. Ramona’s loss was one of two during the week, which also included a Ramona win.

On March 17, Ramona’s varsity and junior varsity teams traveled to Del Norte. The Bulldog junior varsity lost a 9-1 match. The Nighthawks prevailed by an 18-5 margin in the varsity contest.

“It just wasn’t our day, I guess,” Cavell said.

Ashley Wright scored four of Ramona’s goals with Sierra Fields contributing the other successful shot.

Only a varsity game was played March 19 when Francis Parker traveled to Ramona. The Bulldogs had a one-goal lead at halftime but ended the game on the favorable end of the 14-7 score.

“They did much better second half,” Cavell said.

Wright had nine goals against the Lancers. Danielle Vizcarra added three goals, and Maddy Peila and Analise Hardin scored oce apiece.

Ramona’s junior varsity took a 12-6 victory at Rancho Bernardo.

“Varsity went back and forth, goal to goal, and ended up coming up one short,” Cavell said. “That was a very intense and well-played game.”

Vizcarra had the ball with 20 seconds left but was unable to take a shot before time expired.

“Rancho Bernardo’s a pretty tough team,” Cavell said.

In the previous two years’ games between the Bulldogs and Broncos, Rancho Bernardo won 13-3 in 2013 and 18-8 in 2014.

Wright scored eight times against Rancho Bernardo. Vizcarra contributed three goals. Peila and Emily Kramer placed one ball apiece into the net.
