Authorities have confirmed that 22-year-old Shea Bailey of Ramona died at the scene of a solo vehicle accident around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Barnett Road.

Bailey was the passenger in a Ford F150 truck driven by Chase Beatty, 29, also of Ramona, according to reports. He was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center with moderate injuries, said Jeff Christy, the investigating California Highway Patrol officer.

Based on the impact and witnesses’ testimony, it appears the truck was traveling at an excessively high rate of speed and the driver lost control and hit a tree, said Christy.

“The truck was wrapped around the tree on the passenger side,” said Christy.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle for about 40 minutes before being transported to the hospital, according to reports.

Calling the incident a “sad situation,” Christy said it appears the two were coming from a local bar.

“It’s being investigated as alcohol as a contributing factor,” he said. “Charges will be pending based on the outcome of the investigation.”
