Lakers’ coaches to host youth basketball camp

Share

A basketball fundamental skills and training camp hosted by Los Angeles Lakers coaches will be held at Olive Peirce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane, Aug. 3-7.

The You Ball Training camp is open to boys and girls in first through eighth grades from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

“We’re teaching the kids the proper fundamentals,” said Tonee Gavin, camp and tournament coordinator/trainer.

The camp will cover such skills as dribbling, passing and shooting.

One of the benefits of learning the fundamentals at a young age is helping a player become more analytical about scoring in a game, said Gavin, who has 20 years experience as a basketball coach and trainer.

Teaching the camp will be LA Lakers coach Byron Scott and his son and Lakers’ assistant coach Thomas Scott.

A percentage of the proceeds from the camp will be donated to the Olive Peirce Middle School’s basketball and technology programs.

Space is limited. To register and for cost and more information, visit youballtraining.com.
