Letters to editor: Confederate flag, proposed water rate hikes
Confederate flag is not symbol of hate
In reference to Ms. Harwell’s letter (July 9 issue of Sentinel) about teaching kids to point a gun at people of color (how about the kids of color who learned about pointing guns — usually against other kids/people of color?).
This has to be one of the poorest racist letters written. First of all, this is America, and we have freedom to say what we want, to make choices.
First, to attack the Confederate flag: it is not a symbol of hate. Check out a good history book, one not written by one of the progressive liberals, who twist history like they do most of life situations.
If I want to have a Confederate flag, that is my right, and I haven’t, will not, teach my kids to point guns at people of color — or even people of no color (white), as you would probably say.
You might want to check what the history — real background — of the Civil War was really about.

Find a better way than tossing it to ratepayers
Bravo to Mr. Milner’s suggestion (July 2 issue of Sentinel).
Ratepayers need to become and stay involved in the election process. Begin now to screen and select some experienced, intelligent, ratepayer-friendly citizens to seek a seat on the water board.
Also, I strongly suggest ratepayers visit the Transparent California website. This site lists salaries for each Ramona Municipal Water District employee. Seems to me this cost alone has some “wiggle room” to achieve savings — by reductions, consolidation of tasks, furloughs, etc.
There has to be a “better way” than simply tossing the burden to ratepayers.
