Ramona Country Fair: ‘Best Four Days of Summer’

Share

Frequently called “the best four days of summer,” Ramona Country Fair gets underway Thursday and continues through Sunday.

The new location of the 45th annual event at Monument Corner of state Route 67 and Highland Valley Road is sure to increase visibility of the fair, said Sally Westbrook, event chair.

“It’s such a beautiful lot,” she said. “There’s so much room that we can do all the parking on site. It will look like a true old-fashioned country fair.

“There are great people in charge of traffic control, so there will be no backup on 67 or Highland Valley Road.

Presented by Ramona Chamber of Commerce, the country fair offers something for everyone, said Westbrook.

Christiansen Amusements provides four days of carnival rides and games, and attendees will be treated to continuous music, contests, food and commercial vendors, a beer garden and demonstrations.

The chamber will donate all gratuities from the beer garden to local flood victims, said Westbrook.

New to the fair this year is the Bluegrass Festival showcasing five bluegrass bands from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday: Shirthouse, Sunnyside Strings, Box Canyon, High Mountain Road and Chris Clark.

Admission to the fair is free. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Country fair hours are 5 to 10 p.m. today 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Foto Friday photography contest includes categories for Nature, People, Animals and Architecture, with judging in four age categories: 10 and younger, 11 to 14, 15 to 17, and adult. Winners will be announced tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Country Fair Pavilion.

Live music on Friday will be provided by Farm Truck at 5 p.m., Girl in the Middle at 6 p.m. and Gone Blonde at 7 p.m.

Home Sweet Home Saturday features a Country Canning Contest. Entries should be labeled with category and flavor and are due at the fair by 9 a.m. Saturday.

“Bring your best jams and jellies, honey, pickles, salsa and jerky,” said Westbrook.

The Bluegrass Festival on Saturday will be followed by line dance instructions at 5 p.m., Fatty and the Attaboys at 6 p.m., and Southbound Jonny at 8 p.m.

Sunday is Mexican Heritage Day. Ramona Community Singers will take the stage at noon, Mexican Folkloric dancers at 1 p.m., Ramona Martial Arts at 3 p.m., and a Mariachi band at 3:30 p.m.

Westbrook noted that, while Ramona Country Fair takes place at Monument Corner, the Ramona Junior Fair and Livestock Auction will be at the junior fairgrounds, 431 Aqua Lane.

“I am encouraging everyone to attend both the Ramona Community Fair and the Ramona Junior Fair,” she said.

One of the “tiny homes” stationed off Route 67 will serve as a cool zone during the country fair, she added.

“I understand the weather is supposed to be perfect — cool and comfortable,” she said.
