Seconds count for Brandon Arthur in off-road race
Brandon “The Stinger” Arthur put in another consistent race during round 9 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, coming in second place.
This was the third consecutive second-place win for Arthur, the 19-year-old from Ramona who moves up two spots in the points standings, from sixth to fourth.
Arthur races his yellow Competitive Metals Pro Lite truck. His family owns HRT Motorsports in Ramona.
Despite a weekend filled with weather delays, July 18 and 19, The Stinger was hooked up right out of the box. Round 9 was supposed to be run Saturday night, but torrential rains forced a delay to Sunday morning.
“The rains came during practice for Saturday’s race,” said Arthur. “The round was postponed to Sunday morning. With no qualifying, they lined us up according to the points standings. We started on the outside of row 3. My Toyo tires gave me great forward bite off the line. I was running third after the first lap.”
The race got bogged down after this with back- to-back yellow flags for a pair of rollovers. Arthur was in the lead pack with the best in Pro Lite. The points leader, Jerett Brooks, was first and former champion RJ Anderson was second. Arthur was third, ahead of defending champion Sheldon Creed. When the green flag came back out, Arthur was on Anderson’s bumper heading to the front.
“RJ and I both got around Brooks on lap 17 when another caution came out,” said Arthur. “It set up a green, white, checkers finish. On the last lap we had a really close battle with RJ and finished second. It was a great race for us, making that our third second-place finish in a row. It was a great finish for our team and I couldn’t be any more proud of my guys. They have put in a lot of hard work to get us where we are. Our next race is in Estero Beach in Mexico. It should be another good race for us.”
Round 10 was supposed to go off later that day but the rains returned, causing a postponement. Round 10 will be held at a later date that is yet to be determined.
The next Lucas Oil Series race will be Aug. 1 and 2 at the Baja International Short Course at Estero Beach in Ensenada, Baja Mexico.
