Murals to mirror old-time images

Share

An iconic photo of Ramona’s 1938 Turkey Day Queen, Dottie Richardson, is the inspiration for the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project’s artwork being developed for the east wall of the Ramona Business Barn, 369 Main St.

Ramona Design Review Board approved the mural at its June 25 meeting. An artist named Sake is painting the mural.

The mural is being funded by a County of San Diego Community Enhancement Grant, money raised through the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project’s Art & Wine Festival and from donors, said Elaine Lyttleton, president of Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Murals, a 501(c)(3).

The organization is fundraising for another mural that will replicate an old-time photo and was approved by the design review board. An image of downtown Ramona on July 4, 1914, is proposed for a mural on the east wall of Turkey Inn, 716 Main St. A fundraising thermometer is on the wall with the target set at $13,500.
