About 101 San Diego Gas & Electric customers have been without power since 6:52 p.m. Sunday, when a pickup truck hit a power pole in the 100 block of East Old Julian Highway, the utility and neighbors report.

Jason Vaughan, who lives in the 200 block of Old Julian Highway, said he was on his computer when he heard a bang and his computer lost power. When he looked out his window, he saw a white F150 pickup truck back up and drive off.

“I didn’t see the truck hit the pole, but it was obvious what happened,” he said Monday morning.

The power pole fell over Old Julian Highway, sending power lines on the road, resulting in closure of Old Julian Highway between Keyes and Amigos roads while crews worked to replace poles.

“Two new poles are going up,” Neighborly Lane resident Rex Schildhouse said.

Power was restored to the Schildhouse home about 8 Monday morning, but Vaughan said he remained without power. According to SDG&E’s website, the utility expected power to be restored to all customers in the area by 10 a.m.
