Six juveniles were arrested Thursday night, July 2, after they were caught trying to siphon gasoline from a pickup truck in the Ramona Unified School District bus yard at 720 Ninth St., reported the sheriff’s Ramona station.

Although none of the youths made it out of the bus yard, one ran away and tried to jump the fence but was located by the sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter that had been called out to the scene, said Sgt. Andrew Mowins.

The sheriff’s station was alerted to the incident when a call came in at 10:20 p.m. of youths carrying gas cans to the yard, which they entered by going under the fence, he said.

All six were charged with conspiracy: commit crime and two of them were also arrested on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle.

Damages to the school district pickup truck was estimated at $2,500.

On July 4, a husband and wife were transported to an area hospital after they sustained serious bodily injuries as victims in a fight, according to reports.

Mowins said the couple were outside near 12th and H streets when a vehicle sped by.

An argument ensued and three occupants in the vehicle — two males and one female — got out, with one spraying the male victim with pepper spray, said the sergeant. Among the male victim’s injuries were broken bones, stated the report. No arrests were made and the investigation is pending, said Mowins.
