Brandon Arthur doubles down in off-road race series

Ramona teenager Brandon Arthur placed second in both rounds of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in Tooele, Utah, just weeks after taking third place in the series in Lake Elsinore.

The 19-year-old heads to Glen Helen Raceway July 18 and 19 for rounds 9 and 10 in the series.

While racers covet speed and pray for luck, the most sought-after attribute would have to be consistency, said a press release on rounds 7 and 8 in Utah. Brandon was said to be “perfectly consistent” during the June 20 and 21 race event.

Brandon, son of Susan and Todd Arthur, raced in the new Pro Lite truck that he and his father built in their HRT Motorsports shop in Ramona. They also built a Trophy Truck that Brandon races.

“I’m a super proud dad,” said Todd Arthur. “Since Brandon was small, we would build cars together in the shop. We are a tight-knit family and working in the shop lets us spend time together.”

Todd said it takes a lot of work to build the trucks but his son is doing what he loves. Racing, however, does not come easy.

“We have been working to get the new truck dialed in and Brandon has made a tremendous improvement as a driver. It feels really good getting on the box (podium),” said Todd.

During the race series in Utah, Brandon qualified second in his group.

“That put us outside the front row,” said Brandon. “I was battling with Ryan Beat for the lead. After a couple of laps, we pulled away from him. I led all the way until lap 10, then we had a caution. After the re-start, I left the door open and Jarrett Brooks slipped past me for the lead when my roof panel came loose and covered the windshield opening. For the last three laps, I could barely see. I kept digging and finished second.”

On Sunday, Brandon qualified for fourth in his group, which put him inside the fourth row.

“I had a really good start, made some moves and came out of lap 1 in fifth place,” he said. “I made the pass for fourth on lap 2, then third on lap 3. I was running down Ryan Beat when he broke. That put us in second place behind RJ Anderson. I battled for the rest of the race with RJ but could not get around him.

“It was a great weekend for our team. We finally caught some luck and came home with two solid podium finishes. The truck was fast this weekend. It was a great weekend to have with my dad for Father’s Day.”

Brandon’s team attributes the performance to his talent behind the wheel and support from Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services, Rigid Industries LED Lighting, Toyo Tires, HRT Motorsports, Method Race Wheels, Magnaflow, Aeromotive Fuel Systems, F&L Racing Fuel, Impact, FOX shocks, Heatshield Products, Maxima Racing Oils, Summers Brothers, Wirefab, ECP Powder Coating, Bink Designs and Redline Performance.

Brandon said he also relies on strong support from his crew and his parents.
