Ramona High’s girls water polo team increased its league record to 3-0 and overall record to 10-7 with an easy win over Orange Glen Thursday.

The Jan. 29 away game, played at Washington Park in Escondido, was a 14-1 victory for the Bulldog girls.

Orange Glen is in the process of rebuilding its team and does not field a junior varsity team, noted Ramona coach Don Williams. The next two league games will be tougher, he said.

Ramona is scheduled to play Valley Center at home on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The Bulldog girls will face Fallbrook Feb. 12 on the Warriors’ home turf in Ramona’s last league match.

“Fallbrook looks to be the toughest one of the bunch,” said Williams.

As of Friday, Fallbrook’s record was 3-0 in league, 14-7 overall.

Scoring for Ramona in the Orange Glen match were Kelsey Sherman with three goals; Daniela Talento, Ashley Kurtz and Kaylin vanTol each with two goals; and Carney Flinn, Tatiana Lloyd-Dotta, Lauren Masters, Kallan Campa and Maddie Schwegler with one goal apiece.

Steals were recorded by Flinn (5), vanTol (3), Serena Lopez (2) and Leanna Apodaca (2). In the cage, Schwegler had five saves, and Campa, 2.

The varsity team begins playing in the San Diego Open Tournament this week. Games continue through the weekend.

The San Diego Open JV Tournament began Jan. 27. Ramona lost that day to West Hills, 12-1. The JV team plays against Scripps Ranch at El Capitan High School on Friday, Jan. 30.
