Church to present Asante Children’s Choir on Sunday

Pastor Rafael da Silva of Ramona Southern Baptist Church invites the public to a performance by the Asante Children’s Choir from East Africa at the church on Sunday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Asante, which means “thank you” in Swahili, is an 11-year-old Christian organization that educates, feeds and provides health insurance for about 2,000 children — mostly orphans in Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi. The children’s choir is comprised of 22 children from those underprivileged countries.

“Their colorful clothing, pounding drums and sweet voices demonstrate their hope and dream for a brighter future,” states the group’s website, asantechoir.org.

The choir has been touring through the San Diego area and will be staying in Julian Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, said da Silva.

Visitors attending the performance will have the opportunity to donate to the choir through an offering. CDs and African crafts will be available for purchase after the concert.

Ramona Southern Baptist Church is at 838 Hanson Lane.
