Ramona’s Trainer: New Day Resolution

Share

It’s game time. It’s that time of year that we all make decisions to be better.

No one rolls over come Jan. 1 and says, “This is the year that I am going to be mediocre. This is the year I will procrastinate on my health. This is the time to be uninspired and unmotivated.”

Have you ever wondered where the tradition of New Year’s resolutions came from? I have, so I did what any college educated individual would do. I looked it up on Wikipedia!

“The ancient Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each year that they would return borrowed objects and pay their debts. The Romans began each year by making promises to the god Janus, for whom the month of January is named. In the Medieval era, the knights took the ‘peacock vow’ at the end of the Christmas season each year to re-affirm their commitment to chivalry. At watch-night services, many Christians prepare for the year ahead by praying and making these resolutions.”

Other religious parallels to this tradition. The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is a time to reflect upon one’s wrongdoings over the year and to seek and offer forgiveness. The practice of New Year’s resolutions partially came from the Christian season of Lent, when sacrifices are made.

The idea is to reflect upon self-improvement annually.

Making a New Year’s resolution isn’t cliché. It’s not a worn out tradition that needs be abandoned. No, embrace it and take it a step further and make a New Day Resolution every time your feet hit the floor in the morning. In fact, this is what success in any endeavor calls for. It calls for a daily RE-COMMITMENT to the goal at hand.

One of my favorite topics of motivation and annual housekeeping is what I call “The Eight F’s of Fitness.”

I will give just three of the eight to focus on in 2015: Faith, Fitness and Future Legacy. If you want the rest find me on Facebook.com/RamonaFitness and message me personally.

This year pick one thing regarding the area of FAITH to do better in. It could to be attend a local church service or take five minutes each morning for some reflective thinking on life, past, present and future.

For your FITNESS, do one thing in your eating and one thing in your moving to be better. An example would be reduce your soda or alcohol consumption to only the weekends. For movement, do a family hike once a month.

What is FUTURE LEGACY? Its an all encompassing heart, soul, mind, and strength matter. So for future legacy think about how you can positively impact your family, friends or even the world after your time on this earth runs out.

This year make strides to be you, only better. Start small and recommit every morning to a New Day Resolution.
