First snow sends thousands through Ramona to Julian
Bumper-to-bumper traffic trudged through Ramona New Year’s Day on the way to play in the snow in Julian or head to the desert for a long weekend.
“Be aware that Julian is bursting at the seams,” Julian Chamber of Commerce said on its website. “Be prepared to wait in a traffic jam for a long time just to get into town.”
People reported taking up to five hours to get from San Diego to Julian, where six inches of snow had fallen early New Year’s Eve. All roads to the town were blocked for hours, California Highway Patrol reported.
“I don’t know where they’re going to park once they get to Julian,” several Ramonans said as they watched the steady stream of vehicles pass by.
