Bulldog boys and girls fall in first round of CIF basketball playoffs

Ken Scheib’s Ramona High School girls basketball team was perfect in league play but stumbled in the first round of CIF action, falling to Granite Hills 49-34 at home.

Granite Hills took the early lead and although the Lady Bulldogs kept it close, they were never able to take the lead away from the Eagles. Granite Hills scored 13 to Ramona’s 6 in the first period, 8 to Ramona’s 7 in the second, 7 to Ramona’s 11 in the third and 21 to Ramona’s 10 in the fourth.

First year head coach Zack Cole’s boys basketball team traveled to Montgomery High School and lost to the Aztecs 56-54.

As anticipated the teams were very closely matched and the contest came down to the final buzzer.

For the girls, senior standout Katherine Mauldin had another double double game scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Mauldin has been named Player of the Year for Girls Basketball in the Valley League. Along with Mauldin, Kylee Scheib was named to the Valley League First Team, Ciara Mattern was named to the Second Team, and Hannah Farhat and Lauren Werhanowicz were both Honorable Mentions.

Marco Cobian led all scorers with 22 points for the boys, Blake Seits contributed 10, Logan Knudson 6, and Calvin Harris, Isaiah Spieker, Anthony Silvaggio and Davis Windes all had 4 points in the game.

Cobian was named to the Boys Basketball All League First Team for his Valley League play this season.

Anthony Silvaggio, Blake Seits, and Davis Windes were Honorable Mentions.
