Boys basketball enters CIF playoffs

Members of the Ramona High School boys basketball played their final league games and are looking forward to Division III first round action.

The first round begins Tuesday, Feb. 24, pitting the No. 9 seed Bulldogs versus the No. 8 seed Montgomery High School Aztecs. The game was scheduled to be played at Montgomery.

The teams look similar on paper. Ramona is 16-12 overall this season and Montgomery is 16-13. Ramona averages 57.9 points per game whereas the Aztecs average 58.8.

Marco Cobian is the Bulldogs’ leading scorer, averaging 14.4 points per game, and will be matched up against the Aztecs’ Alex Torres, who averages 15.2 points per game.

The winner of this game advances to the quarterfinals to play the winner of the No. 1 seed El Cajon Valley versus No. 16 Olympian game.

The quarterfinals contest will be played on Friday, Feb. 27, at the higher seed’s home court.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. for all games.
