Ramona Soccer League starts season with Opening Ceremonies

It’s the biggest weekend of the year for Ramona Soccer League. It all started with Friday’s opening ceremonies, the official kickoff of the fall soccer season.

Things cooled off nicely for the evening festivities as all the teams were introduced by running down the “runway” while the other teams and parents cheered them on. All of the attendees were entertained by a DJ while they enjoyed food and giveaways provided by the league and the individual competitive teams.

While the kids enjoyed the food and frolicked on the soccer fields, the parents enjoyed bidding on silent auction packages. The packages were put together by each of RSL’s teams.

There was also a team spirit competition that rewarded the team with the best spirit from each division with a gigantic soccer ball pinata.

As fun as the opening ceremonies were, they were just a warm-up for opening day. A beautiful Saturday morning welcomed the young players to the freshly cut fields for some great soccer games.

Teams with names like Prime Time, Orange Bombs and Dribbling Dolphins battled it out until a winner was determined in each match. Whether a team won or lost didn’t seem to matter. The smiles on the faces were a sight to see no matter how well their team did on the scoreboard.

To wrap up the weekend, the adults got into the action with two games on Sunday evening. A 4-2 victory for the Fireballers over Boss and a 5-1 beat down by the Shockers on the Screwdrivers set the stage for plenty of rivalries and competition for the remaining nine games.

The consensus was the entire weekend was a huge success. Ramona Soccer League thank the parents and all the sponsors who donated items for the silent auction fundraiser, as well as all the coaches and other volunteers who gave up their time to provide such a fun experience for the kids.

The action will continue with the second set of games this weekend.
