School starts Monday

Share

When school starts Monday, returning students will see a number of changes. Some will be cosmetic, the result of summer work by the district’s maintenance and operations crews; some, such as the new fire alarm system at Ramona High School, likely will go unnoticed; and some familiar faces will be in new places.

Don’t look for Missy Cobian in the assistant principal’s office at Olive Peirce Middle School. She’s sitting behind the principal’s desk at Ramona Elementary School.

Cori McDonald won’t be teaching math classes at Ramona High. Instead, she’ll be heading activities at the school’s library and media center.

Jennifer Brown, previously at the district office, is now the middle school’s assistant principal.

Myles Vandergrift returns to teach science at Olive Peirce Middle School after a two-year leave of absence to teach at Francis Parker School in San Diego, and Maxwell Lowe has taken over as band director and music teacher at Ramona High.

Ramona Unified School District employees gathered at the performing arts center at the middle school for the annual back-to-school convocation from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20. The theme for the get-together was “Refreshing Our Vision in Support of Students.”

Information about the schedules and office hours for the district’s 10 schools is on the district’s redesigned website, www.ramonausd.net, under “Parents.” Among other information at that location is bus schedules and fees, meal prices, how to apply for free and reduced-price meals and bus passes, and an explanation of the district’s before-and-after-school Extended Student Programs at Barnett, Hanson, James Dukes and Mt. Woodson elementary schools.
