Cal Fire issues no-burn order

Share

Due to the continuing drought and hazardous fire conditions, Cal Fire today banned open flames in many parts of San Diego County.

The no-burn proclamation affects all lands in San Diego and Imperial counties that the state has responsibility for, said Dave Nissen, deputy chief, San Diego Unit of Cal Fire.

That includes much pf East County. A dispatcher at the Cleveland National Forest said similar restrictions are in effect on federal lands, near Julian, Descanso and Pine Valley.

“Due to the extreme menace of destruction by fire to life, improved property or natural resources caused by critical fire weather and acute dryness of vegetation, burn permits and other uses of open fire, except within incorporated cities, are suspended,’’ Nissen said.

Nissen said the campfires are now legal only in pits in established campgrounds that remain open to the public.
