Share

Intermountain Republican Women Federated will “Lunch with Mr. Jefferson” in Barbara DeGraw’s home at 3889 Daley Flat Road in Julian on Monday, Oct. 27.

Melissa Richmond, who worked for Gov. Mitt Romney for 10 years in the Massachusetts State House, will discuss an “Insider’s view of Presidential Campaigning.” Check-in and social time are 10:15 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10:45.

Richmond is the programs and outreach director at Running Start, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Washington, D.C., that encourages young women to run for public office. She is responsible for administering Running Start’s five programs that give high school, college age and recently graduated young women the confidence and skills needed to run for office.

Running Start has trained approximately 7,500 young women in eight years, has had about 50,000 applicants in its programs, and is on track to train at least 1,500 young women in 2014.

When she worked for Romney, Richmond also worked at both of the political action committees of which Romney was honorary chair — the Commonwealth PAC and the Free & Strong America PAC — and on his 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns and on the Super PAC that was formed to support his presidential run, Restore Our Future.

She is a member of the BYU Management Society, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Junior League of Northern Virginia, J. Reuben Clark Law Society, National Rifle Association, National Society of Daughters of Founders & Patriots of America, and Young Nonprofit Professionals Network. A political science major at Brigham Young University, she went to the George Washington University Law School and lives in Arlington, Va., with her rescued dog, Lady.

Also at the meeting, the group hopes to have a discussion about Common Core academic standards.
