Ramona Food & Clothes Closet Foundation offers Community Spirit scholarships

Share

First-generation college-bound students from low-income families have an opportunity to earn a scholarship through Ramona Food & Clothes Closet Foundation’s Community Spirit Scholarship Program.

Scholarships are open to students in the nonprofit’s service area of Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel, Ranchita, Borrego and Warner Springs. All applicants must live in one of these areas, volunteer for 40 hours in the thrift store and be accepted in a two- or four-year California college, university or trade school, before they can apply for a scholarship.

The intent of the program is to assist low-income families who may have a first-generation college-bound student. Home-schooled students may also apply.

Students are encouraged to attend a volunteer orientation at the store and start volunteering so that they can have their 40 hours completed before applying for the scholarship.

Students will gain work experience performing a number of retail tasks as well while volunteering at the store.

Ramona Food and Clothes Closet has provided many scholarships over recent years and is proud to announce that four scholarship recipients have graduated from college and are starting careers.

Scholarship applications are available at the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet store, 773 Main St., from 9:30 a.m to 4 p.m. weekdays. Applications are accepted from March 1 through May 31.

The mission of the Ramona Food and Clothes Closet Foundation is to provide assistance with food and clothing to low- and middle-income families. The net proceeds from the sale of donated items from the community support its emergency food program, student scholarships and community grants. Those who donate to the store give back to the community. More is at www.foodandclothescloset.org.
