The Bulldog girls softball team opened its season at home with a 5-1 loss to Fallbrook High School during a tournament game in the Falcon Fiesta.

Hanah Bowen, a ninth-grader, got the start in the circle and received praise from coach Cori McDonald. Bowen scattered eight hits and limited the Warriors to two earned runs as she fanned six and only issued one walk. She pounded the strike zone throwing 70 percent of her pitches for strikes.

Ramona’s lone run came in the second inning. Amber Davis led off the frame with a walk. She stole second base and advanced to third on a ground ball by Jonna Rodriguez. Ashley Pittman then delivered an RBI single to left field. Ramona did not advance a runner beyond second base for the remainder of the game.

Hayley Brinker delivered Ramona’s only extra base hit, a two-out double in the fourth inning. Brinker was the only Lady Bulldog with multiple hits as she had a 2-for-3 outing. Kailey Hill and Jordyn Fick also delivered hits for the Lady Dawgs.

The Ramona girls will play in one of the biggest tournaments in the county during the next two weeks as they participate in the Cougar classic at Kit Carson Park.
