Coach Michael Gainey’s Bulldog golf team lost to Canyon Crest Academy on the road and won a match against Westview High School at Mt. Woodson Golf Course to open the season.

Westview is using Mt. Woodson as its home course this year.

Freshman Cameron Marshall had a shaky start against Canyon Crest but rallied to post the low score for the Bulldogs in a 197-226 loss. Marshall shot a 42 on the par 36 front nine.

“Cameron’s first ball appeared to go out of bounds so he hit a provisional that also went OB, and so did his third provisional. However, he was able to find his first ball and he settled down and shot a very good round for his first varsity match,” said Gainey.

Jacob Buckley and Justin Graf each carded 45. Dane Harvey shot 46. Jason Morton and Cody Anderson-Parks turned in scores of 48.

The Dawgs picked up their first win of the year by beating Westview High School 219-239. Ryan Graf carded a 36 on the par 34 front nine to take medalist honors. Thomas Andrews shot 41, and Michael Smith was just a stroke behind with a 42. Kazar Motoian and Riley Hubbard turned in scores of 50. Connar Swan had a non-scoring round of 57.

“We have a handful of non-league matches scheduled in the first few weeks of the season,” said Gainey. “This will allow all of the players plenty of opportunity to play, as they are all working hard to grab one of those top six spots on the team. This is a great group of young men who are all showing a lot of enthusiasm for the game and this season.”
