Sheriff’s detective suffered minor injuries in scuffle with suspect

A suspect who ran from law enforcement officials Wednesday morning at Main and Sixth streets was apprehended after a search that included a sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter and a canine unit, according to officials.

Deputies apprehended Ramona resident Luis Juarez, 23, who was wanted on narcotics charges, about 11 a.m. in the 600 block of E Street, said Sgt. John Boyce of the sheriff’s Ramona station.

Boyce said deputies had seen the suspect around 9:35 a.m. at a liquor store at Sixth and Main streets but he took off on a bicycle. He eventually ditched the bike and fled on foot, said the sergeant.

Juarez was arrested on suspicion of narcotic sales and assault on a peace officer and booked into San Diego Central Jail, said Boyce.
