Teenager dies after suffering heat-related illness hiking Three Sisters Falls

—The County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old female who died after hiking at Three Sisters Falls in Julian on July 22 as Yasmen Vidales of San Diego.

According to the medical examiner the cause of death was heatstroke due to environmental exposure. The report states that Vidales was hiking with a friend but they ran out of water and upon returning to the car area on Boulder Creek Road, she became unresponsive. Paramedics arrived after 911 was called and Vidales was airlifted to Sharp Grossmont emergency department where despite aggressive attempts at resuscitation, she was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m., stated the medical examiner.

—An 18-year-old female hiking at Three Sisters Falls needed medical assistance Tuesday and died after she was airlifted to an area hospital, reports the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the report, at 4:13 p.m. Julian deputies responded to a medical aid assist call at the Three Sisters Falls trailhead on Boulder Creek Road in Julian. A female adult hiker had called in saying her companion was suffering from heat- related physical distress, said officials.

Deputies arrived at the same time as the fire department, first aid was started immediately, and she was airlifted to a hospital where she was eventually pronounced deceased, the sheriff’s department said.
