PowPac opens theater season with a comedy set in 1965

Leading off the 2014-15 theater season at PowPAC is “Here Lies Jeremy Troy, a comedy set in 1965 in West Rutherford, N.J., just a short drive from New York City.

The play revolves around Jeremy Troy, who has led his wife, his boss and his friends to believe that he is a qualified attorney. One of the partners in Jeremy’s law firm dies, and Jeremy hopes he will be promoted to fill the opening. In an effort to bolster his chances, Jeremy invites his boss home to dinner to be charmed by his wife, Kathryn.

Meanwhile, an old college friend whom Jeremy has not seen for several years turns up unexpectedly, intending to become Jeremy’s permanent house guest. There is a merry mix-up before the important dinner guest arrives, as one lie follows another in rapid succession.

The play, written by Jack Sharkey, is directed by Keith Anderson and produced by Mary Anderson and Dorothy Courtney. The cast includes Nathan Boyer as Jeremy Troy, Frank Godinez as Charlie Bickle, Rachel Hoey as Kathryn Troy, Scott McNellen as Sven Ivorsen and Bailey Neill as Tina Winslow.

“Here Lies Jeremy Troy” opens July 18 and runs weekends only through Aug. 17 at PowPAC, 13250 Poway Road in Poway. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are available on-line at www.powpac.org, and are $20 for general admission and $17 for students, seniors and active duty military. The price for tickets purchased at the door is slightly higher. There is a $2 surcharge for opening night, which includes a post-performance reception with the cast.
