A deputy pulled the couple over for a suspected traffic violation and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from their vehicle, Boyce said in a statement. Remson allegedly admitted he had used marijuana and had some in the car.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the deputy found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than 100 pieces of stolen mail, credit cards and checks, Boyce said.

“The stolen mail is commonly used to commit fraud and steal victims’ identities,” the sergeant said.

Remson and Woods were each arrested and booked into county jails on suspicion of drug possession, identity theft and mail theft.

Both were scheduled to be arraigned in El Cajon Thursday afternoon.
