Girls basketball wins two, drops two

The Lady Bulldogs went 2-2 in a week that had them traveling throughout the county. Although the week started with two losses, Ramona’s varsity girls won the remainder of the week.

West Hills came to Ramona on Monday and the Wolfpack barely squeaked out a 50-47 victory.

Katherine Mauldin led the team in points (17) and in rebounds (9). Chiara Mattern had a strong game putting up 11 points, Kylee Scheib had 6 points and six rebounds, Lauren Werhanowicz scored 7, Hanna Farhat had four rebounds and Mackenzie Griffin, contributed 3 points in the effort.

Tuesday’s game was at Poway. The Bulldogs lost 77-55. Mauldin scored 20 points and was 10-11 for free throws. Scheib had a monster defensive game that included three steals, two blocks and a deflection.

Mattern could not be stopped. The shooter had 18 points, 12 of them from 3-pointers. Werhanowicz contributed 100 percent on the free throw line. Farhat had a big game scoring 11 points that included three 3-pointers.

Thursday found the team at Rancho Buena Vista where the Bulldogs pulled down the victory 57-53. Mauldin once again led the ladies with 25 points, Mattern contributed 22, Scheib had 11 rebounds as did Mauldin in the win.

On Saturday, the girls returned home to face University City, winning big, 65-32. Every member of the team saw court time in the victory.

Mauldin had 16 points and 16 rebounds, Scheib scored 5 points and was solid once again defensively, with five assists and two steals.

Leah Green scored 8 points, had five rebounds and an assist, Mattern sank 12 points, Werhanowicz contributed seven rebounds, Farhat three rebounds, Maddy Funk scored 2 points, and Griffin had 5 points and six rebounds.

Molly McLeod contributed 8 points and 10 rebounds, and Emily Sojourner contributed 7 points and had two defensive rebounds. It was a great game for the ladies from Ramona.

The girls basketball team will play at home Dec. 15 and 19 returning to the road on Dec. 20. Home games begin at 7 p.m.
