Letter to editor: Great concept, but don’t think it will work
Regarding article titled “Friends of Ramona Unified Schools ‘kicks it up a notch.’” I think if the people of Ramona did not pass Proposition Q on a voting ballot, then I think “The Ramona Way” is not going to work as well. In order for the debt and other schools issues (i.e. leaking roofs) to be solved, the schools need a lot of money, more than what the people of Ramona can give.
I understand if some people of Ramona do not have children who go to school here, or don’t anymore, and think the bond would not benefit them in any way, shape, or form. I also understand if homeowners weren’t too keen on the idea of a raise in property taxes if the bill passed, I truly do, but the bond would have been a better and faster solution to the problem.
In order to pay for the much needed projects, I think there will be changes to the schools in the near future. Changes such as staff members and security losing their jobs to use their paychecks to reduce the debt.
Teachers and staff members will most likely take a pay cut which would hinder the education of the students (the future generations of the nation) if those teachers decide to leave, and the appearance of the school would decrease in appeal to parents and students due to the lack of supplies needed to keep it up or the less water used for the lawns.
The idea of a community coming together to help in their local needs is a great concept, but the whole community would have to pitch in to raise the money needed to improve the schools, and I don’t think there is enough motivation (or money) from the people of Ramona to do it “The Ramona Way.”
