Share

First Congregational Church, Eighth and D streets:

•Dec. 14 — Christmas Cantata. The congregation’s combined choirs, with singers from the community, will present “I Hear the Prophet Callin’: The Christmas Story from Prophecy to Fulfillment” at the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. The cantata, by Pepper Choplin, is celebrated for creating different, original anthems that resonate with traditional folk qualities. Inspired by his best-selling Appalachian-style anthem of the same name, Choplin has crafted a stylized Christmas Cantata described as unique, unusual and yet comfortable and compatible. The presentation is free and all are welcome.

•Also on Dec. 14 — Blue Christmas Service, designed especially for those who might be feeling less joyful and more “blue” during the holiday season, at 4:30 p.m. The service is open to all.

•Dec. 21 — Christmas Sunday will be celebrated at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. worship services. During morning services, “Children of Light, Rejoice” will be presented by the combined choirs and the Bell Choir. The final candle, the Candle of Love, will be lighted on the Advent Wreath.

•Dec. 24 — Traditional Christmas Eve services of Lessons, Carols and Lights will be held in the Sanctuary at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. Through scripture, carols and instrumental music, the story of Jesus’ birth will be told. The youth fellowship will present A Living Nativity in the courtyard throughout the evening.
