Sailor killed in motorcycle accident

Update, April 15—

A motorcycle accident in Julian, just before 3 p.m. April 11, claimed the life of a 29-year-old active duty sailor who resided in Ramona, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Navy has identified him as Petty Officer Third Class Trevor C. Ducusin. He was based aboard the USS Higgins in San Diego, said a Navy spokesperson.

The sailor was driving a motorcycle northbound on state Route 79, north of KQ Ranch Road and, while maneuvering into a right-hand curve, his bike entered the southbound lanes and he collided head-on with an SUV, stated the medical examiner’s report.

Responding paramedics confirmed his death without medical intervention, the report said.

Update, April 11, 5:45 p.m.—

A motorcyclist was killed this afternoon in a collision with an SUV on state Route 79 north of Lake Cuyamaca.

The fatal accident occurred about 3 p.m. at KQ Ranch Road in the Harrison Park area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The rider, whose name was not released, died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Friday, April 11, 4:15 p.m.—California Highway Patrol is reporting a fatality in an accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on state Route 79 at KQ Ranch Road near Julian.

The southbound lanes of Route 79 are open with one-way traffic control, CHP says on its website.
