Car strikes ambulance at Sixth and Main Friday afternoon

A 37-year-old female passenger was transported to Palomar Medical Center with facial injuries after the vehicle she was in struck a private ambulance at Sixth and Main streets about 2:45 this afternoon, said authorities.

California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Kattke said the silver Suzuki ZX4 was northbound on Sixth Street and the driver thought it was clear to cross Main Street when it broadsided a private ambulance. The front of the car sustained major damage. Four people were in the Suzuki — the female driver from Warner Springs, and two females and one male, all who are special needs from Ramona, said Kattke. Only the 37-year-old was injured, he said.

The Air Care International ambulance was transporting a dialysis patient to Santa Ysabel, according to Cal Fire/Ramona Fire Department Battalion Chief Jose Ramirez. Four people, including the patient, were in the ambulance but no one suffered injuries as a result of the accident, said Kattke. The accident caused minor damage to the ambulance’s right side.
