First Philadelphia, then Washington, D.C., for 63 Ramona eighth-graders

It’s Day 2 in Philadelphia for 63 Olive Peirce Middle School eighth-graders who will be in Washington, D.C. tonight.
They went to Independence Hall and Liberty Bell today and had an amazing tour guide named Joe Benton,
reports Ramona school trustee Kim Lasley, one of six district chaperones on the trip.
“The kids enjoyed Joe’s enthusiasm and learned so much,” she said.
During their first outing in Philadelphia yesterday, they lined up ready for Philly cheese steak sandwiches for dinner at Steaks Gone South in the city’s historical downtown.
They also talked to “Benjamin Franklin” at the Neighborhood House across from the old Christ Church in the historical district. Franklin talked about when he was the same age as the eighth-graders, his schooling, and his jobs and accomplishments.
Before the day was over, a guide walked them along the cobblestone streets by lantern light.
With the students and chaperones are six parents.
The travelers will return to Ramona the evening of Monday, April 14.
