Fire department invites community to 4-hour open house on Saturday

Share

A Cal Fire dozer, Mercy Air helicopter, Jaws of Life demonstration and stove fire demonstration are among activities planned for Ramona Fire Department’s annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The family event will be at Fire Station 80, 829 San Vicente Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Youngsters will have the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of fire engines, meet Smokey Bear, and watch emergency helicopters land.

This year’s theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Because two of every five home fires are reported to begin in the kitchen, firefighters will give demonstrations of cooking fires and fire extinguishers.

Palomar Health will offer flu shots and B12 shots for $20 each. Paramedics will distribute Vials of Life, which provide first responders with lifesaving medical information about a patient.

An interactive fire safety trailer, California Highway Patrol and San Diego County sheriff’s booths, and Ramona Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) booth are among other open house features. Mexican food will be available, and music is planned.

Anyone wishing more information may call 760-788-2269.
