Fire hydrant knocked over in 2-car accident at 10th and H streets, one person sent to hospital

A fire hydrant at 10th and H streets was knocked over, sending water gushing into the streets, after a two-vehicle collision that sent one person to the hospital around 9:20 Tuesday morning.

The female driver of a 2005 Lexus was eastbound on H Street approaching 10th Street at 35 mph when she failed to stop at the stop sign and broadsided a 1992 Honda Civic, according to California Highway Patrol. The impact pushed the Honda to the northeast corner of the intersection where it struck a fire hydrant and chainlink fence, said CHP Public Information Officer Kevin Pearlstein.

The 18-year-old driver of the Lexus, who is from Ramona, was transported by Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire to Pomerado Hospital, with complaints of pain to her head and back, Pearlstein said.

The driver of the Honda, a 17-year-old from Ramona, had a cut to his face but declined medical attention, said the officer.

Water service was not affected for residents in the area, said a Ramona Municipal Water District staff member.

A traffic signal is planned for 10th and H Streets.
