Ramona High School Coach Matt McCormick had to mix his lineup for the girls tennis team’s second Valley League match against Oceanside. The results were very good for Ramona as the Lady Dawgs beat Oceanside 13-5.

“Megan Douglass played No. 1 singles and put in a positive performance by winning two of her three sets (2-6, 6-3 and 6-0), Elizabeth Bowersox (0-6, 6-0 and 7-5) also won two sets and played very well. Lara Igebekele made her varsity debut and played well in all three sets,” said McCormick when commenting on his singles players.

“The doubles teams dominated Oceanside and improved in execution and strategy” he said. The doubles teams won all nine sets.

Lauren Dunker and Rebecca Vaca showed all league form as they cruised to easy victories by posting scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Danielle Vizcarra and Cassidy Owens had strong performances as they went 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0. Alyssa Virgilio and Caroline Lopresti got words of praise from McCormick as they dominated their opponents with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Dawgs are preparing for a non-league tilt with powerful Mira Mesa, a match that McCormick said will have tremendous CIF implications.

“Serra and Point Loma both lost twice to Mira Mesa and both of those teams will be in the running with us for CIF berths at the seeding meeting. We are looking forward to the challenge,” he said.
