Ramona High School girls golf beat Valley Center by forfeit in a Valley League match at San Vicente Resort as the Jaguars did not have the minimum five golfers required for an official match.

The Lady Dawgs played the match and recorded a good team score.

“It was a win by forfeit but nonetheless, the team score was good. We need to be prepared for next Tuesday when Oceanside comes to San Vicente. We won by two strokes at their course the last time we played,” Coach John Rathbun told his team after the Valley Center match.

“We needed to play that match under match conditions to get ready for Oceanside,” he added.

Kailey Hill earned the medalist honors by carding a 46. Bre Hirsh was just one stroke behind with a 47. Cheyenne Hockin also shot in the forties, posting a 49. Amanda Raines shot 51, and Shannon Curristan recorded a 54. Rachel Costan shot a 56.

Before every golf match the two teams get together and the home team coach goes over the local rules and tells the visiting team about the unique qualities of the course. The players get introduced and good sportsmanship is stressed.

In golf there are no officials. The players enforce the rules and are on the honor system to report infractions if they break a rule.

“It is up to us to uphold the integrity of the game,” said Assistant Coach Jerry Patenaude.
