Lakeside brush fire 100 percent contained; Pendleton fire 15 percent contained, report fire officials

A brush fire that blackened about 15 acres today near Lakeside was 100 percent contained by early afternoon, and Camp Pendleton firefighters, aided by Cal Fire and others from around the area, continued to cut fire lines around a blaze that consumed more than 1,500 acres, and had the fire about 15 percent contained this afternoon. fire officials said.

The fire was reported at about 10:15 a.m. in the 10400 block of Aquilla Drive near El Nopal, and had grown to 10 acres in about an hour, according to fire officials and the California Highway Patrol.

In the noon hour, fire officials said the fire had burned about 15 acres, and that its forward spread had been stopped.

No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were ordered, fire officials said.

Fire crews expected to remain at the scene overnight, according to Cal Fire.
