Club swim team competes in local meets

The Ramona Swim Team, a competitive club that was formerly part of Heartland Swim, participated in the Fast C Meet in Fallbrook.

Representing the Blue Team at the Oct. 19 meet were Katelynn Dodd, Trinity Garcia, Quinton LaRosa, Bryon Larson, Scott McClure, Christian Rowland and Noah Snyder. Together they achieved 86 percent best times and walked away with six new B times. Garcia achieved two personal bests, adding a new B time in the 100 backstroke. In the freestyle swim, LaRosa went 1:00.47, a personal best by ¾ of a second. He also earned a new B time in his 100-yard breaststroke with 1:18.42. Larson achieved a new B time in his 50 freestyle with 28.90 while Rowland gained a new B time in the 50 freestyle with 32.73. He also dropped almost 5 seconds in his 50 backstroke. Snyder secured two new B times, one in the 50-yard breaststroke with 43.72, and one in the 100 freestyle with 1:11.79.

In the Red Group, the younger swimmers, many achieved time drops and swam events and strokes for the first time. Representing the Red Group was Katie Dusseault, Heather Holden, Vivienne Yerkes, Jason Holden, Jimmy Philips, Nathan Snyder, Nicholas Tempesta, Zach Padilla, Joshua Weiss and Kaleb Yoder. Philips was named Red Group “Swimmer of the Meet” for his continued dedication to focusing on all aspects of his strokes in practice.

The Ramona Swim Team participated in the Freestyle Festival at Poway Community Center on Sept. 28. Representing the 12 and under swimmers, Rowland improved his 100 freestyle time by 5 seconds, and his 50 time by .4 seconds. Snyder swam the 100 freestyle and bettered his time by 2 seconds, and improved his 200 time by 10 seconds. Vince Thompson improved his 100 freestyle by 3.5 seconds.

Among the 13 and older swimmers, Garcia improved her 100-yard freestyle by 4 seconds, earning the first B time of the day with 1:08.71; took 11 seconds off of her 200 time; improved her 50 freestyle by 2 seconds, earning a B time with 30.59; and swam her first 500 freestyle, completing it in 7:02.48. LaRosa swam the 100 freestyle in 1:03.20, completed a first-time swim in the 200 freestyle with 2:20.51, and earned a B time in the 50 freestyle with 26.65. Larson swam the 100 freestyle in 1:05.88, dropping 2 seconds off his best time. In the 200 freestyle Larson swam 2:25.72, while in the 50 freestyle, he took 29.68. He dropped his 500 time by over 30 seconds with a finishing time of a 6:25.9.

Snyder, Garcia, and Larson also represented Ramona in the RSD A/B meet on Oct. 12 and 13.
