Update:

Firefighters quickly contained a fire around noon Tuesday that began in an outbuilding at 2015 Montecito Road, near Hunter Street, and spread into an adjacent lot.

According to Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire Battalion Chief Burke Kremensky, the outbuilding was damaged, a pickup truck near the building was destroyed, and about a quarter of an acre burned. No one was injured, he said, and the nearby house was not damaged.

The fire was reported at 11:53 a.m.

“By 12:15 we had it contained,” said Kremensky, adding that firefighters would still be mopping up until around 2 p.m. The cause, he said, is under investigation.

California Highway Patrol Officer Joe Nielsen was the first one on the scene.

Responding to the fire were seven fire engines, and three crews, said Kremensky. Two helicopters and two air tankers also responded but did not perform any drops, he said. Fire agencies on scene were from Ramona Fire Department, Intermountain Fire & Rescue Department, Cal Fire, and U.S. Forest Service.

Kremensky noted that the lot next door to the house had been cleared of brush which helped to prevent the fire from spreading.

“We were able to pick it up fast because it was mowed,” he said. “So it slowed the progress of the fire.”
